The central and local government use this contact information to notify you electronic about important information.
Delete contact information
If you have your contact information deleted in the common contact register, you will be unable to receive service messages by SMS or e-mail from public authorities.
Electronic ID
In order to use digital services from Norwegian public agencies, you must have an electronic identification, e-ID, to be able to log in. An electronic identification is an electronic way of proving one's identity on the internet.
Digital communication
The Storting has made changes to the law governing communication with citizens. Now all public agencies may communicate digitally with citizens rather than via standard paper mail. Digital communication improves the environment and re-channels public spending.
Opting out
If you do not want to receive digital mail, you can simply let public authorities know that you would prefer to receive official documents and letters on paper. You do this by opting out of the common contact register.

Death and inheritance
When someone dies, a death certificate is issued by a doctor or hospital authority. Normally, the inheritors decide how the estate (property, money, possessions) should be administered.
Divorce
If you and/or your spouse no longer wish to live together, either or both of you can apply to your county governor’s office for a separation. It is not necessary for both of you to agree on the separation. The county governor will contact your spouse if you apply alone.
Moving
When you move, you must report your new address to the National Population Register (folkeregisteret), at the earliest 31 days before or 8 days after your move. The National Population Register is managed by the Norwegian Tax Administration (skatteetaten).
