Order a birth certificate

Norwegian Tax Administration

Birth certificates contain information about a person's name, date of birth, personal ID number, gender, place of birth and possibly the names of the person's parents. As regards newborn babies, the Tax Administration will automatically send the birth certificate to the parents after the child's name has been registered.

Marriage certificate

Everyone who gets married receives a confirmation after the marriage has been registered with the Tax Administration. If you need a marriage certificate on paper or you would like a copy, you can order one here.

Send electronic message to County Governor (Statsforvalteren)

County Governor - Statsforvalteren

The County Governor has an electronic form you can use to send documents and other information, to handle a case. The electronic form can also be used to send a message to County Governor.

Change of name

You can change your first name, middle name and last name. Note that the middle name is not a first name. Names which can be used as a surname, may also be taken as a middle name.

Approve or reject the child's name

If you are a father or co-mother and share custody with the mother, you must approve the name choice mother has reported. You do this online. 

Report the name of your child

When the Tax Administration has sent you a request to select a name for your baby, you can report it online. This only applies to first-time name choice.
