Online communication as general rule
Central and local government are transitioning to online communication with their citizens. It makes better services and quicker replies from the public sector. When the public sector sends important mail to you, you will be notified by SMS or e-mail as to where you shall log in to read the letter.

To log into online services from public authorities you need an electronic ID (eID). Over 3 million citizens have obtained an eID, and use it, among other things, to read, correct and file their tax returns online.
Public authorities are moving to communicate digitally with citizens. If you prefer to receive letters on paper, you must opt out of the digital communication scheme. If you have never used your mobile phone number or e-mail address to log into a service via ID-porten, there is no need to opt out.
